ISSUE 84: ISN'T THE TIME RIPE FOR GOOD COMEDY?

Issue: Isn’t the time ripe for Good comedy?

Convener(s): Mufrida Hayes

Participants: Dan, David Cottiss, Mark , Cass and another woman (soz didn’t get name)

Summary of discussion, conclusions and/or recommendations:

Talked about comedy not always valued as much in theeatre. Was there more in difficult times.
Do we have a duty to give audience what they want – to laugh for example. General sense that people wanted to have a bit of light/humour alongside the tragic. That they touch the same things in us.

Some feeling that things were a bit earnest.
David pointed out not really many specific theatre comedy writing made since the 30’s. Lots that works as both come4dy and tragedy.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA – was decided the main summary. There is a following session about humour in dark times at 4.30
